Business Casual

LOVE the ruffles!

Cool filigree-esque details and python print!

I woke up really tired yesterday morning and lounged around with Keppie for most of the morning. I couldn't seem to shake the 'funk' and I had stuff that needed to get done, including making dinner for my friends C & A (and their 3 year-old, S) who had a baby girl a little over a week ago. When I'm not feeling well or am in a grumpy mood, getting dressed up a little more than usual really makes a difference and helps give me a pick-me-up.

I decided to go with a 'business casual' look (even though I am on break from school, and I can pretty much wear anything I want there anyways.) I started with this yellow lightweight sweater. It has a great ruffle detail at the neckline and the hem! I then layered on this menswear-inspired pinstripe vest. A black straight skirt added polish and upped the 'business' feel of this ensemble. Because the sweater is such a vibrant yellow, I wanted to keep the accessories in the gold family. This long gold necklace has great filigree-esque details and the gold python print belt pulled everything together. I wanted to add another splash of color, so I chose these coral gladiator sandals. The gold chain detail ties perfectly into the gold-themed accessories.

Sweater: J.CREW

Vest: Thrifted (originally H&M)

Skirt: NY&Co.

Necklace: Banana Republic

Belt: J.CREW

Shoes: Aldo

How do you dress when you are in a 'funk'??

I like both this outfit and the in"vest"ment outfit, but I think the belt in both of them is superfluous. You have awesome belts, Ally, and you look good in them, but you don't want to become a "one trick pony." You know what I mean? That's why it's so great that you mix things up with the cardigans, vests, blouses, and pretty, bright colors!

i try to wear an easy dress when i'm in a funk, that way there is not too much thought that has to go into the outfit

Jean skirts, a knit hat, and a cardigan ... that's my "funk" look :)
