Windy City Visit

{Jacket: Anthropologie - on sale!) / Sweater: Gap Outlet / Skirt: J.Crew / Boots and Necklace: Banana Republic (both old) / Scarf: J.Crew (similar - great price!)}

David, Yishai and I just spent the past week in Chicago with David's family for Thanksgiving. We only go a couple of times a year and it was nice to see (almost) all of his family. Now that we have Yishai we want him to be able to see his great-grandparents as much as possible, and David is very fortunate to (thank G-d) still have 3 living grandparents.

It was a packed visit! David's older brother and our sister-in-law hosted not only all of David's family, but all of her family for Thanksgiving as well so it was a full house! There was the requisite crazy amounts of food and lots of fun catching up with all of the siblings. 5 little ones gathered at the table as well, and, as my SIL put it, "It's on for next Thanksgiving!" Hmm...wonder who's bringing the next addition ;) 4 married sibs with a wedding in April; guess we'll have to wait and find out...

And if we hadn't eaten enough, Sunday was our older nephew's 3rd birthday party and first haircut (Upsherin). It is a Jewish custom that many have to not cut a boy's hair until his 3rd birthday. Here is a basic explanation - definitely better than my attempt would have been:) Everyone at the party took a turn cutting of my nephews light brown curls that, until then, had cascaded down his back, most of the time extremely unruly! He loved sitting in the chair being the center of attention:) The transformation, which happened in a matter of minutes, was amazing! He went from looking like a long, curly mop-top to a big kid...It took me a few minutes to adjust to his new look.

For those wondering, yes, David and I will be taking part in this tradition and letting Yishai's hair grow until his 3rd birthday. Right now, Yishai's hair is mostly straight, and I am curious whether or not he will get dark brown curls...I guess we'll wait and see:)

On the Bridge

{Top: Target (similar) / Sweater: J.Crew / Vest: J.Crew / Skirt: J.Crew / Boots: Banana Republic / Hat: H&M / Necklace: Gift from D / Bracelets and Sunnies: LOFT / Watch:Michael Kors}

Just taking a break right now from packing to work on this post. Come to think of it, I think I've spent more time "breaking" than actually "packing". The only thing I hate more than packing for a trip is unpacking after the trip...and then most of the stuff just gets dumped in the hamper!

We are headed to Chicago on Tuesday night to celebrate Thanksgiving with David's family. While I am looking forward to our first Thanksgiving with David's family, I know that I will miss this time we usually spend with my family and our traditions. Our trip is even more exciting as it is our nephew's third birthday and we are excited to finally be able to celebrate a birthday with him. Even though his actual birthday is tomorrow, we'll all celebrate with proper birthday festivities on Sunday.

Happy 3rd Birthday MacMac! We can't wait to see you!
Love,
Aunt Ally, Uncle David and Cousins Yishai and Keppie

Moto + Stripes +Mixed Metals

{Top: Old Navy / Sweater: GAP (love this one!) / Skirt: J.Crew (similar) / Boots: Banana Republic (love these) / Sunnies: LOFT / Necklace: Banana Republic / Bracelets: J.Crew Factory, Francescas / Watch: Michael Kors}

I'm loving the contrast of the "tougher" moto sweater with preppy stripes! Definitely adds a bit of 'edge' to an otherwise classic navy + camel combo. I decided to play up the moto aspect with my aviators and a chunky metallic necklace. I am not usually one to like mixed metal jewelry, but not even paying attention, I chose a gold locket necklace and I actually really like the mixed metal look of the necklace and the zippers.

Maybe I'll start jewelry tone mixing more...maybe:)

Late Afternoon Walk

{Shirt: GAP / Poncho: LOFT / Skirt: GAP / Belt and Bracelet: LOFT / Moccasins: Minnetonka via J.Crew (similar) / Necklace: Thrifted / Hat: H&M / Watch: Michael Kors}

Our plan was to go for a walk this morning but by the time we got ready and headed out the door it was raining. Bummed out by the combo of gross weather and no walk, I had resolved myself to a day of pjs and a whole lotta' couch potato time. But when the weather cleared up in the afternoon we leashed up the pup, buckled the babe in the stroller and headed out for what turned into a 3 mile walk around the neighborhood. David had to drop off a photo shoot CD to some friends of ours, and we decided that it would be nice to walk and drop it off. Needless to say, late afternoon fall walks are the stuff that dreams are made of. We walked and talked and Yishai eventually fell asleep looking super cozy while the brim of his hat crept down to eventually cover his eyes.

For those of you wondering about Keppie's vest, she's in training to be a therapy dog. Our hope is that she will soon go to hospitals, nursing homes and special needs schools visiting with patients and students. There are tons of studies about the positive affects of therapy animals with regards to physical and mental health and mood and Keppie is definitely the dog for the job! She brings immeasurable joy to our lives and we want to be able to share her love with those who could really benefit.

Hope these pics of Keppie brighten your day!

Beautiful Sunday

{Button-Down: J.Crew (loving this version) / Shirt: Banana Republic (gorgeous - on sale!) / Skirt: J.Crew / Boots: UGG (similar) / Hat: H&M / Watch: Michael Kors / Bracelets: INPINK, J.Crew Factory}

Wow - today was so unbelievable beautiful! We started our morning by bundling Yishai into the stroller and, with the pup in tow, all went for a brisk 3-mile walk/jog. Perfect way to start a gorgeous Sunday!

With weather like today, it's kinda hard to believe that in the past 2 weeks we've had a devastating hurricane and a nor'easter. But those are now behind us, and New York and New Jersey are beginning to rebuild. While lives of some will never be fully back to normal, resilience and determination can be heard in everyone's collective voice.

David's photography hobby means that we have thousands upon thousands of photos of Yishai but very few family photos. We recently had an outdoor photo shoot with our super talented friend Sheena of Sheena Levi Photography and I can't wait to see the results! Today we went for our first ever studio portraits at Sears Portrait Studios and it went really well:) Yishai was in a great mood and after the first few frames really brought our his million watt smiles. I think our photographer was contemplating stealing him at one point;) We picked out our proofs and I'm super excited to go back and pick them up in a couple weeks. Once we get all of our new photos, I'll be sure to share them.

Hope everyone has a great, productive week!

Pretty in Pink

{Top: J.Crew / Sweater: J.Crew / Skirt: J.Crew / Boots: Banana Republic / Bag: J.Crew /
Necklaces: Francescas / Flower: LOFT / Hat: H&M}

I've been wanting to try out the monochrome look, but I didn't want to look like a giant crayon so I threw in a pattern to shake things up a bit. I like how I can wear (almost) head to toe pink and not feel too girly. The corduroy and gingham feel rugged and the asymmetrical zipper toughens up the sweet pale pink sweater.

Anyone have any tips for other ways to do monochromatic?

Hope everyone has a great rest of your weekend!
